Key Principles
There are some key principles which underpin a rights based approach. IPA invites readers to think about what they might mean in terms of children’s play.
- Universality and Inalienability
These rights belong to every child. They cannot be taken away. - Indivisibility
There is no hierarchy between rights. - Inter-dependence
The violation of one right can impact on the realization of others - Participation and Inclusion
Children are entitled to participate in decision-making to the maximum of their potential - Equality and Non-discrimination
All people are entitled to respect for their rights without discrimination on any grounds - Accountability
Signatories are obliged to comply. Progress reports are monitored and evaluated.
